One of the most beautiful cities in Europe was for a long time under my "travel radar". Finally, last October I flew over and stayed for a couple of days - and I will be back in spring to explore and enjoy more of this lovely place.

Highlights of a spring visit in Edingburgh will be the Royal Botanical Garden, the Palace of the Holyroodhouse, the Edinburgh Castle, the National Museum of Scotland and the Parliament (free tours), the Dean Gallery, a Chocolate Experience tour, and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. Certainly, the John Knox House tour, which was built 1470, now a museum, or even a Gin or Whisky Distillery, and a Haunted Underground Vaults and Graveyard Tour.

On my to-do-and-see list is also another walk to the “Dean Village” that boasts some of the capital's most spectacular architecture, mainly Tudor revivals, and a lovely walk along the Leith River. A wonderful leisure walk offers Dr. Neil’s Garden (free entrance), also called "Edinburgh’s Secret Garden" - showing off the famous spring flower beauty.

Visiting the National Gallery of Scotland, this time I will not miss the rooftop viewing platform on the seventh floor, to see the incredible 360-degree views of the city skyline

What could be more relaxing than an hour at the Princess Gardens, sitting in the sun?

I will finally be back at the Writers Museum, on a Sunday, to join the Scotch Writers Tour.

... and dine at the Scotsman Grand Cafe

... before heading to the train station with its impressive skylights

... and then board the luxury evening train to London. There again I will be pampered with a delicious and fresh-prepared evening dinner, served on real china. I will have one or more glasses of champaign or wine. All First Class for less than a hundred dollars!
