La Ventana is a small fishing village on the shore of La Ventana Bay, circa 45 minutes south of La Paz on the Eastern side of the Baja California peninsula in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. If you land in San Jose del Cabo take a shuttle or rent a car to drive HWY 1 in the east direction for less than two hours to reach La Ventana.
The village was founded in the early 1940s by the La Paz pearl diver Salome Leon. When pearl diving became unprofitable, Salome brought his family over the mountains from La Paz to La Ventana Bay to create the village. Many of his descendants continue to live, fish, and work in the village town.

La Ventana (English "The Window") is named for the 'window' to the Gulf of California between nearby Isla Cerralvo and Punta Arena. As the ultimate sports destination, La Ventana Mexico lures adventure seekers to its sandy shores with the promise of consistent offshore winds and waves.
While it’s only two hours away from the bustling, tequila-fueled resort strips in Cabo San Lucas, La Ventana feels authentic–a place with dusty, bumpy roads, framed by cacti and quiet beaches instead of mega-resorts, buffet lines, and drunken tourists.
La Ventana is the perfect example of "desert meets the ocean". Sun seekers, mountain bikers, surfers, SUP’ers, kayakers, kiteboarders, snorkelers, divers, and anglers load up their gear and head down to play in the surf, with a stunning backdrop of the Sea of Cortez and Jacques Cousteau Island.
